Arsenal Identify Striker and Right-Back as Future Priorities, Fabrizio Romano Reveals

Arsenal are already looking beyond the current transfer window, with Fabrizio Romano revealing the positions Mikel Arteta’s side could target in 2027.

The Gunners strengthened their squad significantly during the summer, but their failure to land a major new forward means the striker position remains an area to monitor. Romano has also identified right-back as another position where Arsenal could eventually make an addition. 

Arsenal Still Looking at Strikers

According to Romano, Arsenal remain interested in adding another striker, although the position is not considered an immediate problem.

The transfer expert explained that the Gunners are satisfied with their current attacking options and are scoring plenty of goals. As a result, there is no pressing need to force a January signing.

However, Romano expects Arsenal to seriously examine the striker market either in January or, more likely, during the summer of 2027.

The timing will depend on which players become available and whether Arsenal identify an opportunity that fits their plans.

Julian Alvarez Remains on Arsenal’s Radar

One of the names previously associated with Arsenal is Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez.

The Argentina international was heavily linked with the Gunners during the summer, but a move did not materialise. Arsenal were also unable to complete deals for several other high-profile attacking targets.

Romano suggested that Alvarez remains one of the players Arsenal could consider as they assess the striker market for future windows. 

The forward’s versatility would also make him an attractive option, given his ability to operate through the centre or in wider attacking positions.

Eli Junior Kroupi Also on the List

Another name mentioned by Romano is Bournemouth youngster Eli Junior Kroupi.

The French forward enjoyed an impressive breakthrough Premier League campaign, scoring 13 goals in 35 appearances across all competitions during the 2025/26 season. His performances have attracted attention from several major European clubs, including Arsenal. 

Kroupi was previously reported to be on Arsenal’s radar alongside clubs such as Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain.

With the teenager still developing, Arsenal could continue monitoring his progress before deciding whether to make a formal approach.

Right-Back Another Position to Watch

Romano also identified right-back as a position Arsenal could revisit.

The Gunners are understood to be happy with their current options, meaning there is no immediate requirement to make a signing. But the position could become a target if a major opportunity appears.

Romano suggested that a summer 2027 move is more realistic unless an outstanding player becomes available during the January window.

Arsenal Unlikely to Force January Deals

Arsenal’s approach to January could be particularly important.

Romano pointed out that the Gunners generally prefer not to make major January investments unless the right player becomes available.

That strategy could see Arsenal wait until the summer before making a significant move for their preferred striker or right-back.

The club therefore appears to be planning ahead rather than rushing into the market.

Arteta’s Long-Term Transfer Plan Taking Shape

The latest comments suggest Arsenal’s recruitment strategy is already looking beyond the current season.

A striker appears to be the clearest long-term priority, with Julian Alvarez and Eli Junior Kroupi among the names previously linked with the club.

Right-back is another position being monitored, although Arsenal remain satisfied with their existing options.

For now, there is no indication that the Gunners need to make a major January purchase. Instead, their recruitment team can continue assessing the market before deciding when to make the next significant move.
