Manchester City forward Iliman Ndiaye has hinted that a future return to Marseille could still be possible, despite only recently completing his move to the Premier League champions.

Ndiaye joined City from Everton during the summer transfer window in a deal worth up to £65 million, signing a five-year contract as part of the club’s major squad rebuild under Enzo Maresca.

The Senegal international spent the 2024/25 season at Marseille before returning to England with Everton. His time in France left a strong connection with the club and its supporters, and his latest comments have now sparked questions about whether he could eventually make another move to the Stade Vélodrome.

Ndiaye leaves door open for Marseille return

Speaking about the affection he still receives from Marseille supporters, Ndiaye acknowledged that the possibility of returning to the French club cannot be completely ruled out.

The 26-year-old made it clear that he enjoys hearing fans call for his return and suggested that his relationship with Marseille may not be finished.

However, there is currently no indication that Ndiaye is looking to leave Manchester City in the near future. His comments appear to be more about his emotional connection with his former club than an immediate transfer request.

City invested heavily in Ndiaye

Manchester City moved quickly to secure Ndiaye during the final stages of the summer transfer window.

The versatile attacker arrived after two seasons at Everton and became one of City’s major attacking additions. He can operate from either wing or through a central position, giving Maresca another option across the forward line.

Ndiaye’s contract runs until 2031, meaning City have no immediate reason to consider selling him.

The player himself had previously spoken enthusiastically about joining City, saying his decision to move to the Etihad was an easy one after discussions with Maresca and sporting director Hugo Viana.

Manchester City’s transfer situation remains under scrutiny

The latest speculation surrounding Ndiaye comes at a particularly complicated time for Manchester City.

The club is currently appealing an independent commission’s ruling concerning Premier League financial-rule breaches. City maintain their position that they are innocent, while the appeal process remains ongoing.

For now, there is no suggestion that the situation will lead to an immediate Ndiaye departure. The Senegal forward remains part of Maresca’s plans, and City will hope he can establish himself following his high-profile arrival.

A return to Marseille could therefore remain a story for the future rather than an imminent transfer possibility.
