Italy return to Nations League action on Monday when they welcome Türkiye to the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara in Bologna, with Roberto Mancini’s side looking to build on a strong run of recent performances.
The Azzurri have already faced Türkiye during this international window, producing an impressive 4–1 victory in Bursa. Italy then followed that result with a 1–1 draw against France in Paris, giving Mancini’s team renewed confidence after a difficult start to his return as national-team coach.
Türkiye, meanwhile, arrive in Bologna under considerably more pressure. Vincenzo Montella’s team are still searching for their first Nations League point after three consecutive defeats, while several important attacking players are unavailable for this match.
Italy looking to continue their improvement
Italy’s campaign began with a disappointing defeat to Belgium, but the response from Mancini’s players has been encouraging.
The 4–1 win over Türkiye was followed by a competitive performance against France, where Italy fought back to secure a draw. Gianluigi Donnarumma was particularly important in Paris, while Alessandro Bastoni has also contributed at both ends of the pitch during the international break.
With another home match against Türkiye, Italy have an opportunity to collect three valuable points and strengthen their position in the group.
Türkiye facing a difficult situation
Montella’s side have struggled to find consistency during the Nations League.
Türkiye have lost all three of their matches so far and will now have to deal with several significant absences. Hakan Çalhanoğlu and Kenan Yıldız are unavailable through injury, while Arda Güler is suspended after picking up a booking against Belgium. Barış Alper Yılmaz is also suspended.
Those absences could make it difficult for Türkiye to reproduce the attacking threat they showed earlier in the competition.
Expected lineups
Italy are expected to make several changes following the demanding draw with France.
Italy predicted XI: Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Mancini, Bastoni, Ruggeri; Barella, Romano, Doumbia; Vergara, Scamacca, Maldini.
Türkiye could also alter their setup as Montella looks for a response.
Türkiye predicted XI: Çakır; Çelik, Demiral, Kabak, Kadioglu; Özcan, Yüksek; Akgün, Aktürkoğlu; Gül, Güler.
However, the exact Turkish lineup remains subject to late changes, particularly because of the team’s injury and suspension problems.
Italy vs Türkiye head-to-head
History strongly favours Italy.
The two nations have met 14 times previously, with Italy winning 10 matches and drawing four. Türkiye have therefore never beaten the Azzurri at senior international level. Italy have also won three of their last four meetings, including the 4–1 victory earlier in this Nations League campaign.
That record, combined with Italy’s current momentum and home advantage, makes the hosts the clear favourites.
Italy vs Türkiye prediction
Türkiye will be determined to respond after their difficult start, but Italy appear to have more quality and greater depth available for this fixture.
Mancini’s side have shown signs of improvement over their last two matches, while Türkiye are missing several key players and have struggled defensively.
Prediction: Italy 3–1 Türkiye.
A comfortable Italian victory would give Mancini another important step forward as he continues rebuilding the national team.
