David Alaba Reaches Agreement With Udinese After Real Madrid Exit

Former Real Madrid and Bayern Munich defender David Alaba is closing in on a surprise move to Serie A side Udinese after reaching an agreement with the Italian club.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Alaba has reached a verbal agreement with Udinese and the remaining formalities are expected to be completed before the transfer is officially confirmed. 

Alaba Set for Udinese Move

The 34-year-old Austria international has been a free agent since leaving Real Madrid at the end of last season.

Alaba spent five seasons at the Santiago Bernabéu after joining Madrid from Bayern Munich. During his time in Spain, he made 132 appearances, scoring five goals and registering nine assists across competitions. 

His agreement with Udinese gives the experienced defender an opportunity to continue his career in Serie A.

From Real Madrid to Udinese

Alaba’s arrival would represent a major experience boost for Udinese.

The Austrian defender has enjoyed an outstanding career, winning the Champions League four times and collecting 10 Bundesliga titles during his long spell with Bayern Munich. He later added further European success with Real Madrid. 

Several top Italian clubs had reportedly been linked with Alaba during the summer, including Inter, AC Milan and Juventus, but Udinese now appear to be close to securing his signature. 

Udinese Drop Major Hint

The transfer speculation received another boost when Udinese posted a picture of a white chair on their official social media account.

The image is a clear reference to one of Alaba’s most recognisable celebrations. After Real Madrid’s famous comeback against Paris Saint-Germain in the 2021/22 Champions League, Alaba celebrated by lifting a chair above his head.

Udinese’s post was widely interpreted as a hint that the former Madrid star is on his way to the club. 

Alaba Looking for a Fresh Start

Alaba’s final years at Real Madrid were disrupted by injuries, including a serious knee problem that kept him out for an extended period.

Despite those setbacks, he remained an important figure in the club’s recent history and made 16 appearances during the 2025/26 campaign. 

A move to Udinese would give the veteran defender a fresh challenge in Italian football while bringing considerable experience to a team that has made a difficult start to the Serie A season.

Official Announcement Expected

The agreement between Alaba and Udinese still requires the final formal steps before the transfer can be completed.

However, the reported verbal agreement and Udinese’s social-media hint suggest that an official announcement could follow soon.

For Udinese, signing a player with Alaba’s Champions League experience would represent a notable addition to their squad as they look to strengthen their defence for the remainder of the season.
