Brazil Fight Back to Beat Australia 4-2 in Fiery Brisbane Friendly

Brazil came from behind to secure a 4-2 victory over Australia in an entertaining international friendly at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane on Tuesday.

The result completed Brazil’s two-match tour of Australia with a win, following a 1-1 draw between the sides in Townsville four days earlier. More than 52,000 supporters watched an action-packed encounter in which Australia briefly took control before Brazil responded strongly after the break. 

Brazil Strike Early

Brazil needed only a little over two minutes to open the scoring. Vanderson collected the ball under pressure before producing a powerful finish into the top corner for his first international goal.

The early goal threatened to make the match difficult for Australia, but the hosts gradually settled and began to play with greater confidence.

Their response was rewarded in the 28th minute. A corner eventually reached Alessandro Circati at the far post, with the Australian defender getting the decisive touch to bring the Socceroos level after a VAR review overturned the initial offside decision.

Just five minutes later, Australia completed the turnaround.

Connor Metcalfe received the ball from Circati before unleashing a superb strike beyond Brazil goalkeeper Otávio to make it 2-1.

Raphinha Levels From the Spot

Brazil refused to go into the interval behind.

Harry Souttar was penalised for bringing down Danilo inside the Australian penalty area, and Raphinha stepped up to convert the resulting spot-kick.

The Barcelona winger’s goal made it 2-2 before half-time and gave Brazil a platform to take control of the match in the second period. 

The second half became increasingly heated, with tensions rising after a confrontation involving Endrick and Souttar near the touchline.

Despite the fiery exchanges, Endrick would ultimately have a major influence on the result.

Endrick Helps Brazil Turn the Game Around

After replacing Raphinha at half-time, Endrick became an important attacking outlet for Brazil.

The young forward created Brazil’s third goal in the 69th minute, delivering a cutback for Bruno Guimarães, who finished the move to put the visitors back in front.

Brazil then received another opportunity from the penalty spot late in the match. Vinícius Júnior was brought down in the area after contact from Nestory Irankunda, and the Real Madrid forward converted to make it 4-2. 

Australia were unable to produce another comeback, leaving Brazil with victory after an entertaining six-goal contest.

Raphinha Injury Adds Concern for Brazil

Brazil’s victory was accompanied by a concern over Raphinha.

The winger was substituted at half-time after experiencing discomfort in his right leg. The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed that the player had suffered muscle discomfort, although further assessment will determine the seriousness of the issue. 

Brazil will now travel to Kolkata for another international friendly against India on Saturday.

For Australia, the defeat came despite another competitive display against one of international football’s major nations. The Socceroos showed attacking ambition and twice threatened to take control before Brazil’s second-half quality ultimately proved decisive.
