Tottenham and Aston Villa Tracking Lyon Playmaker Pavel Šulc Ahead of January

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are reportedly keeping a close eye on Lyon attacking midfielder Pavel Šulc ahead of the January transfer window.

The 25-year-old Czech international has attracted attention in England after establishing himself as an important player for Lyon. His ability to operate centrally as a No. 10 or from wider positions is understood to be one of the reasons both Premier League clubs are monitoring his situation. 

Tottenham Interested in Pavel Šulc

Tottenham are believed to have followed Šulc since his time with Viktoria Plzeň, and the North London club could consider making another move for the versatile attacker.

Despite strengthening their attacking options during the summer, Spurs reportedly remain interested in adding further creativity to their squad.

Šulc’s flexibility could be particularly attractive, as he can play behind the striker while also moving into wide areas.

Aston Villa Also Monitoring the Czech Star

Aston Villa are another club linked with the Lyon midfielder.

Reports suggest Villa view Šulc as a potential addition to their options in the attacking midfield position. His ability to play across several positions could also provide manager Unai Emery with another tactical option. 

Šulc previously impressed at Viktoria Plzeň before moving to Lyon in 2025. During the 2025/26 campaign, he recorded 14 goals and three assists across 38 appearances for the French club in all competitions, according to available statistical records. 

Lyon Set €50m Asking Price

Lyon are not expected to make negotiations straightforward.

Šulc’s current contract reportedly runs until 2029, giving the French club a strong position when it comes to his future. CaughtOffside reports that Lyon would want at least €50 million before considering a sale, despite the player’s estimated market value being considerably lower. 

The French club is also reportedly seeking performance-related bonuses and a sell-on clause as part of any potential agreement.

January Transfer Battle Could Develop

With the January window still ahead, there is no indication that either Tottenham or Aston Villa has reached an agreement for Šulc.

However, the reported interest puts the Czech midfielder on the radar of two Premier League clubs. His performances at Lyon and his versatility could make him a player to watch when the winter transfer window opens.

For now, Lyon’s reported €50m valuation represents the main obstacle for any potential deal.
