Luis de la Fuente Extends Spain Contract Until 2032: “We Are Not Satisfied Yet”

Luis de la Fuente will remain in charge of the Spain national team until 2032 after agreeing a new contract with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

The extension was officially presented at the Ciudad del Fútbol in Las Rozas, where De la Fuente spoke about his future, Spain’s recent success and the ambitions that remain ahead. 

De la Fuente commits to Spain until 2032

The new agreement keeps De la Fuente at the helm through the 2030 World Cup and the 2032 European Championship.

RFEF president Rafael Louzán explained that extending the coach’s contract was considered important for the continuity of the current project. The original focus had been on the 2030 tournament, but the federation ultimately decided to offer De la Fuente a deal running through 2032. 

De la Fuente accepted the proposal and made it clear that he wants to continue working with the national team for many more years.

Spain coach refuses to rest on recent success

De la Fuente arrives at the new stage of his contract with an impressive list of achievements.

During his time with Spain, he has won the UEFA Nations League, the European Championship and the 2026 World Cup, while also previously collecting titles with Spain’s youth teams and an Olympic silver medal. 

Despite those successes, the coach insists that Spain’s work is far from finished.

His message at the renewal ceremony was focused on continuing to compete for trophies rather than simply celebrating what has already been achieved.

“We are not satisfied with what we have achieved so far. The best is yet to come.”

2030 World Cup and Euro 2032 already in sight

De la Fuente acknowledged that reaching the 2030 World Cup and the 2032 European Championship is particularly exciting, although he said he prefers to focus on each stage rather than looking too far ahead.

Spain will first have to prepare for the challenges immediately in front of them before turning their attention to those major tournaments.

The coach nevertheless confirmed that he hopes to be involved in both competitions and intends to give everything to the project. 

De la Fuente rejects talk of leaving Spain

Another important point from the presentation concerned his future beyond the national team.

When asked about potential offers from clubs or other national teams, De la Fuente said he had not listened to them and had no intention of pursuing another opportunity.

He described the RFEF as a second family and said he wants to remain with the federation for many years. 

Spain’s next chapter begins

With the contract now secured through 2032, the Spanish national team enters another period under the same coach who has overseen its recent run of major international success.

For De la Fuente, however, the message is clear: previous trophies are part of the past, while the focus is now on continuing to improve and competing for more silverware.

The next challenge begins immediately, with Spain looking to maintain the standards established during De la Fuente’s tenure.
