Bayern Munich Ready to Make Contract Exception for Harry Kane

Bayern Munich appear prepared to break one of their usual contract policies to keep Harry Kane in Bavaria for the long term.

The England captain is currently in the final year of his existing agreement, but negotiations over an extension have been progressing positively. Bayern supervisory board member Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has now indicated that Kane could be offered a longer deal despite being over 30. 

Bayern willing to make an exception for Kane

Bayern have traditionally been cautious about handing lengthy contracts to players in the later stages of their careers. However, Rummenigge says Kane’s situation is different.

The former Bayern striker explained that Kane’s consistency and availability have convinced the club to consider an exception to its usual approach.

Kane has missed relatively little football since arriving in Munich, which has strengthened Bayern’s desire to keep him beyond his current contract. 

Contract talks are progressing

Kane’s representatives are currently discussing the next agreement with Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen.

While the club and player appear to be moving in the same direction, the exact length of the contract remains one of the issues still being discussed.

Reports suggest Bayern would like to extend Kane’s stay through 2029, while the striker is interested in having an option that could take his contract through 2030. 

Kane himself recently confirmed that negotiations were going well and that the two sides were getting closer to an agreement. 

Kane has made a huge impact in Munich

Since moving from Tottenham Hotspur to Bayern in 2023, Kane has established himself as one of the club’s leading attacking players.

He has scored 101 Bundesliga goals in 98 appearances according to the latest reporting, while his Champions League record for Bayern stands at 34 goals in 39 games. 

His continued goal production is one of the reasons Bayern are willing to reconsider their normal approach to contracts for older players.

The club’s sporting leadership has also previously expressed confidence that Kane wants to remain in Munich, with Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen saying both sides were keen to find an agreement. 

Kane’s future appears to be in Munich

There is still no official announcement of a new contract, meaning the remaining details must be finalized before the deal can be completed.

However, Kane’s own comments and the latest statements from Bayern officials indicate that negotiations are moving in a positive direction.

For Bayern, keeping their experienced striker would provide continuity at the heart of their attack, while Kane would have the opportunity to continue pursuing major trophies in Germany and Europe.
