Thomas Tuchel believes Harry Kane’s missed penalty could have completely changed the course of England’s clash with Spain, with the German manager highlighting the importance of small details at the highest level.

England suffered a difficult start against the European champions, falling behind early before responding strongly and creating opportunities to turn the match around. According to Tuchel, his side then lost control of key moments through a series of individual mistakes. 

Kane’s penalty could have changed everything

Tuchel believes the goal could have had a major psychological impact on Spain. He suggested that, had Kane scored, Spain might have started to believe their remarkable unbeaten run was finally coming to an end. 

Instead, England were unable to take advantage of the opportunity and later conceded again as defensive errors continued to hurt them.

Tuchel frustrated by individual errors

However, he was particularly disappointed with the mistakes that allowed Spain to take advantage.

For Tuchel, the performance demonstrated that England had enough quality and effort to compete, but the result ultimately failed to reflect those positive moments.
