Gilberto Mora has quickly become one of the most closely watched young players in Mexican football, with his performances for Mexico attracting renewed attention from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The 17-year-old midfielder plays for Club Tijuana and has already made a significant impact at senior level despite his age. His latest international performance added another major chapter to his rapidly developing career.

Mora makes history with Mexico

Mora scored his first goal for Mexico in the 1-1 draw against Colombia, producing an impressive individual move inside the penalty area before finishing at the near post.

The goal made him the youngest player to score for Mexico’s senior national team, further highlighting the remarkable pace of his development. He had also recently been handed the No. 10 shirt by Mexico head coach Rafa Márquez, becoming the youngest Mexican player to wear the number for the national team.

His performances have continued to put him under the spotlight after he also featured for Mexico at the 2026 World Cup.

Barcelona and Real Madrid monitoring Mora

Reports from Spain and Mexico indicate that both Barcelona and Real Madrid are among the clubs monitoring the young Mexican.

Barcelona’s interest in Mora is not entirely new. Reports of the Catalan club following his progress date back to 2024, when the youngster was invited to visit the club’s training facilities. His name has continued to appear in reports linking him with a potential move to Europe.

Real Madrid are also reported to be keeping track of his development, while other European clubs have been linked with the midfielder as his reputation continues to grow.

There is no confirmed agreement with either Barcelona or Real Madrid at this stage, meaning Mora’s next destination remains open.

When could Mora move to Europe?

One important date is October 14, 2026, when Mora turns 18.

His current contract with Club Tijuana reportedly runs until 2029, while reports have also indicated that his new agreement contains a release clause for European clubs. That could make the Mexican youngster an increasingly interesting option for clubs looking to secure one of the game’s emerging talents.

Mora’s representative, Rafaela Pimenta, also has extensive experience working with high-profile European players, adding another interesting element to the youngster’s potential move to the European market.

A major decision ahead

Mora’s development will now be closely watched as European interest continues to grow.

Barcelona and Real Madrid are among the clubs reportedly monitoring him, but they are not the only European teams mentioned in connection with the Mexican teenager. Borussia Dortmund, Benfica and several Premier League clubs have also been linked with his situation.

For now, Mora remains a Club Tijuana player. His record-breaking performances for Mexico, however, have ensured that his name is becoming increasingly familiar across European football.

The next stage of his career could determine whether the Mexican youngster eventually makes the move to one of Europe’s biggest clubs.
