Real Madrid Demand Action After Fresh Refereeing Dispute as Javier Tebas Hits Back

Real Madrid have escalated their criticism of LaLiga’s refereeing situation after the latest Madrid derby controversy, while league president Javier Tebas has rejected suggestions that officials are systematically working against the club.

The dispute follows Atlético Madrid’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid, a match that generated several controversial refereeing decisions and reignited the long-running debate surrounding officiating in Spanish football.

Real Madrid challenge LaLiga over refereeing controversy

Real Madrid have publicly challenged Javier Tebas after the LaLiga president dismissed the idea that refereeing decisions are part of a broader campaign against the club.

Tebas argued that an individual refereeing error should not be interpreted as evidence of a wider conspiracy. He also criticised the way Real Madrid have raised concerns about officiating, saying that the club’s approach places excessive pressure on referees.

Another major talking point involved Cristian Romero’s challenge on Jude Bellingham. Tebas argued that Romero’s contact with the ball first meant the incident did not warrant a red card. The CTA has also maintained the yellow-card decision after reviewing the incident. 

The most significant admission concerned Lee Kang-in’s challenge on Fede Valverde. The Atlético player escaped a red card during the match, but the CTA later acknowledged that the challenge should have resulted in a sending-off. 

Tebas criticises pressure on referees

Tebas has also renewed his criticism of Real Madrid Television’s coverage of refereeing decisions.

The LaLiga president said the broadcaster’s approach amounts to excessive pressure on officials and argued that the league needs to maintain ethical standards around criticism of referees. 

Real Madrid, however, have rejected the suggestion that their concerns are simply an excuse for poor performances.

Reuters reports that the club has called for Tebas to leave his position as LaLiga president following his comments about the refereeing dispute. 

Mourinho also voices frustration

Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has been among those to express strong dissatisfaction with the officiating following the derby.
