Mikel Arteta Agrees New Arsenal Contract With Major Pay Rise

Mikel Arteta has reportedly reached an agreement with Arsenal over a new contract that will extend his time in charge of the Premier League champions.

The Spanish coach was approaching the final months of his existing deal, but discussions between Arteta and the club had been progressing for some time. Those negotiations have now resulted in an agreement for the 44-year-old to continue leading the Gunners.

Arteta set to continue Arsenal project

The exact length of the new contract has yet to be officially confirmed. However, the extension is expected to keep Arteta in north London long enough for him to approach a decade at the club.

Arteta returned to Arsenal as head coach in December 2019, taking his first senior managerial job after working alongside Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.

Since then, he has overseen a major transformation of the squad and ultimately guided Arsenal back to the top of English football, winning the 2025/26 Premier League title after three consecutive second-place finishes.

Significant salary increase expected

Arteta’s new agreement is also expected to come with improved financial terms.

Reports indicate that the Spaniard’s existing package includes a salary of around £10 million per year, with bonuses potentially adding another £5 million.

The new contract is expected to increase his earnings as Arsenal move to secure the manager who has led their recent resurgence.

Arteta had already made his intentions clear

Despite uncertainty surrounding his contract earlier in the year, Arteta repeatedly indicated that he wanted to remain at the Emirates Stadium.

Speaking about his future, the Arsenal boss made clear that he was happy at the club and confident that both sides were aligned over a new agreement. As recently as September, Arteta publicly played down concerns about his contract situation.

Arsenal’s ownership had also identified extending Arteta’s contract as a major priority following the club’s Premier League success.

With an agreement now reportedly in place, Arsenal can turn their attention back to matters on the pitch as Arteta continues the next phase of his project in north London.
