XABI ALONSO BREAKS SILENCE ON VINICIUS JR APOLOGY AFTER PUBLIC OMISSION

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has addressed Vinicius Junior’s recent apology following the Brazilian’s outburst during last weekend’s El Clásico, insisting that the matter is now “completely settled.”

Vinicius caused controversy after reacting angrily to being substituted in the 72nd minute of Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona, reportedly telling staff that he “should leave” the club. Days later, he posted an apology on social media — but notably did not mention Alonso in his statement.

In his message, the 25-year-old wrote:

“Today I want to apologise to all Madridistas for my reaction when I was substituted in the Clásico. As I’ve already done in person during training, I also want to apologise again to my teammates, the club, and the president.

Sometimes passion gets the better of me because I always want to win and help my team. My competitive nature comes from the love I feel for this club. I’ll keep fighting every second for Real Madrid, as I have since day one.”

The omission sparked speculation of ongoing tension between the two, but Alonso quickly dismissed any notion of a rift. Speaking ahead of Madrid’s LaLiga clash with Valencia, the coach said:

“Has Vinicius apologised to me? We had a meeting with everyone on Wednesday — and he was impeccable. He spoke with honesty and sincerity. For me, that settles everything.”

Alonso went on to praise his player’s attitude since the incident:

“It was a very positive statement. He spoke from the heart, and I was very satisfied. The matter was closed on Wednesday. Vini trained very well yesterday, and we’re all moving in the same direction.”

When pressed further, Alonso reaffirmed there would be no disciplinary action against the forward:

“It’s done. We have a match tomorrow, and there will be no retaliation. The team — including Vinicius — is focused on what truly matters.”

Vinicius has been in excellent form this season, contributing five goals and four assists in ten league appearances under Alonso. With under two years remaining on his contract, Madrid hope to resolve his future before the end of the season.

After facing Valencia, Los Blancos will travel to Anfield to meet Liverpool in the Champions League, where former Reds star Trent Alexander-Arnold will return to Merseyside for the first time since his summer move to Madrid.
