BARCELONA ENTER MARCUS RASHFORD TRANSFER TALKS AS MANCHESTER UNITED FACE £12M LOSS

Barcelona have opened discussions with Manchester United regarding the permanent transfer of Marcus Rashford, who has impressed during his loan spell at the Spotify Camp Nou.

The 28-year-old forward joined Barça on loan last summer after falling out of favour under United boss Rúben Amorim, and he has since rediscovered his best form in Spain. Rashford has registered five goals and seven assists in 13 appearances across La Liga and the Champions League, quickly becoming a key figure in Hansi Flick’s attack.

Under the terms of his loan agreement, Barcelona hold an option to buy Rashford for £28 million — considerably below the £40 million valuation United have set for other potential suitors. With the player still under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, United could face a £12 million shortfall if the deal goes through.

According to reports from Sport, the Catalan club have already begun preliminary talks with United to define the framework of a potential permanent move. While a second loan is seen as unlikely, Barcelona are said to be leaning towards triggering the buy clause, provided a compromise can be reached on Rashford’s wages.

The main obstacle remains the England international’s salary, though his representatives have reportedly held conversations with Barça and expressed a willingness to accept reduced terms in exchange for a long-term deal that could run until 2030.

Rashford himself has spoken positively about life in Spain and has made no secret of his desire to stay beyond this season.

“I’m really enjoying my time in Spain — the weather is the best,” he told Sport. “It’s been a big change, but I’m learning every day and enjoying it a lot. I hope to be here for a long time.

I get along very well with Roony [Bardghji], Jules [Koundé] and Frenkie [de Jong]. It’s a great team, and we’re all united. We just need to keep improving to be at our best this season.”

Barcelona are expected to make a final decision on whether to exercise the purchase option before the end of the campaign, with Rashford’s performances in the coming months likely to prove decisive.
