Harry Kane produced another memorable performance for England as the Three Lions defeated Czechia 3-0 at Wembley in the UEFA Nations League.
The England captain marked his 125th international appearance by scoring twice, while Vladimir Coufal’s own goal gave Thomas Tuchel’s side the perfect start. Kane’s milestone appearance saw him draw level with Peter Shilton as England’s most-capped men’s player.
Kane shines on historic England night
There could hardly have been a better way for Kane to celebrate matching Shilton’s record.
The Bayern Munich striker was involved in all three of England’s goals and continued his remarkable scoring record for the national team. He now has 91 international goals and remains comfortably England’s all-time leading scorer.
England took the lead in the 27th minute when Kane’s low delivery caused problems inside the Czech penalty area and Coufal turned the ball into his own net.
Kane then doubled the advantage before half-time, finishing from close range after a dangerous delivery from Morgan Rogers.
Kane completes his brace
England continued to control proceedings after the break, and Kane added his second goal of the night in the 57th minute.
The striker rose to meet a corner from Lewis Hall and powered his header beyond goalkeeper Lukáš Horníček.
With the score at 3-0, England were able to manage the remainder of the contest comfortably and finish the international window with another convincing victory.
England building momentum under Tuchel
The result gives England their third victory in four Nations League matches.
After losing their opening game against Spain, Tuchel’s team have responded strongly, scoring 12 goals without conceding in their last three matches. That run includes a remarkable 7-0 victory over Croatia before Tuesday’s win at Wembley.
Tuchel also reached his 20th victory as England manager, achieving the milestone in just 26 matches — faster than any previous England boss.
The manager will now have plenty of selection decisions to make as competition for places continues to increase. Youngster Rio Ngumoha also made history by becoming the second-youngest player to represent England at Wembley.
England move closer to Nations League qualification
England’s latest victory puts them in a strong position in Group A3 as they chase qualification for next summer’s Nations League Finals.
The Three Lions still have matches against Croatia and Spain to come in November, but the team’s recent performances have provided plenty of encouragement for Tuchel.
For Kane, meanwhile, the night will be remembered for much more than three points. His 125th cap, two goals and involvement in all three strikes made it another landmark evening in an already extraordinary England career.
