FODEN: BOURNEMOUTH’S PRESSING MAKES THEM STRONG — THEIR POSITION IS NO ACCIDENT

Phil Foden has praised Bournemouth’s intensity and tactical discipline, insisting their strong start to the season is no fluke as Manchester City prepare to face the high-flying Cherries this afternoon.

Pep Guardiola’s side have taken five wins, one draw, and three defeats from their opening nine Premier League fixtures. Victory today would lift City into second place behind leaders Arsenal.

Despite some mixed results, Foden believes the team have laid solid foundations for another title push.

“The season isn’t going to be decided in the first ten games. I’m happy with where we are,” Foden said. “There’s still a lot to improve, but overall, it’s been a positive start.”

After struggling with injuries and inconsistent form last season, the 25-year-old midfielder feels rejuvenated and confident in his performances.

“I think I’m in good form and I’ve been playing well,” he continued. “Maybe the goals and assists don’t show that, but overall my performances have been much better than last season. I’m happy with that.”

City’s next challenge comes against Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth, who have shocked many with their early-season form, sitting just behind Arsenal in the standings.

Foden, however, says their rise doesn’t surprise him — highlighting Bournemouth’s aggressive pressing and attacking quality.

“Their strength is how they press — they go man-to-man at times and really put pressure on you,” he explained.

“Antoine Semenyo on the wing is a quality player and he’s been excellent this season. The way they play out from the back and move the ball is impressive.

“They’re a really strong team, and their position in the table is no lie. It’s going to be a difficult game.”
