No Rift Between Vinícius and Alonso After “Impeccable” Apology Following El Clásico Incident

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has confirmed that all tension between himself and Vinícius Júnior has been fully resolved after the Brazilian delivered what the coach described as an “impeccable” apology to his teammates.

The 25-year-old forward was substituted in the 72nd minute during Madrid’s 2–1 victory over Barcelona at the Santiago Bernabéu, a moment that drew unwanted attention after Vinícius reacted angrily to being replaced by Rodrygo. Reports soon emerged suggesting a potential rift with Alonso, even hinting that the player had threatened to leave the club.

However, following the public apology Vinícius issued on Wednesday, Alonso made it clear that the matter is now firmly in the past.

“On Wednesday, we had a meeting with everyone, and Vinícius was impeccable,” Alonso told reporters. “He spoke with complete honesty and sincerity. For me, it’s settled — there will be no retaliation. It was a very positive and heartfelt message.”

The Madrid boss added that his focus is now entirely on the upcoming LaLiga clash with Valencia, rather than lingering on off-field drama.

“I’ve already given enough explanations,” Alonso continued. “It was closed on Wednesday. We’re coming off a good week, and what concerns me now is Valencia.”

Vinícius has featured 13 times in all competitions this season — starting 10 matches, scoring five goals, and providing four assists. Notably, he has an exceptional record against Valencia, with nine goals in 12 league appearances — his best return versus any opponent in LaLiga.

“I see Vinícius very focused and full of energy,” Alonso said. “He played an excellent game the other day, and like everyone else, he’s committed to what’s most important — performing on the pitch.”

Alonso also offered insight into his leadership style, emphasizing the importance of authenticity and empathy in managing a squad filled with personalities.

“The key is to be myself,” he explained. “Always think about what’s best for the team, maintain mutual respect, and understand that every player is different. Emotional intelligence is crucial.”

With the internal tensions behind them, Real Madrid now turn their attention to keeping their place at the top of LaLiga, as they prepare for a potentially tricky test against Valencia this weekend.
